Obstetrics & Gynaecology Unit

Maternity ward is 20 beds situated on the second floor.

MISSION

Maternity ward will provide comprehensive family centred care and ensure quality by offering:

  • Prompt efficient friendly services.
  • Safe, effective and timely care by competent staff.

STAFF

Services are provided by highly experienced and specialized team (Obstetricians, Midwives and Paediatricians) who deliver safe and quality services throughout the child bearing process and post-delivery.

DELIVERY SUITE

Eleven (11) rooms are ensuite inclusive VIP and water birth room, spacious with a home like environment. Labour delivery, recovery, postpartum and new-born care occur in the room unless caesarean section is necessary.

LABOUR COMPANION

On admission the mother is allowed one companion to support her during labour and postpartum. {Because of COVID 19 protocols and safety of our patients Sidilega has suspended lodging of companions)

ROOMING IN

The midwife facilitates the provision of care of the new born by mother and companion in the room. The baby only leaves the room when sick to be admitted in Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

LABOUR SUPPORT

Midwives and companions assist the women to go through the normal process of labour by applying non pharmacological ways to reduce pain like the following;

  • Relaxation and breathing exercises.
  • Touch and Massaging.
  • Hydrotherapy / bathing.
  • Walking and climbing the stairs.
  • Warm and cold Therapy.
  • Use of birthing ball
  • Acupressure
  • The pharmacological ways to reduce pain are injection (Pethidine) and inhalation of entonoux gas.

LENGTH OF STAY

Following normal delivery a woman can stay for 1-2days. Birth following C/section she can stay up to 2-3 days.

HEALTH EDUCATION

  • Infant feeding-Exclusive breastfeeding/Exclusive formula feeding, breast milk banking.
  • Cord care
  • Mother and Neonatal Hygiene.
  • Immunizations.
  • Post natal Exercises.
  • Birth Certificate
  • Minor disorders of new-borns.

VISITING HOURS

Mothers need to rest and recover post-delivery therefore the number of people allowed to visit is limited to 3. No under 12years children are allowed to visit.

  • 19.00-20.00hrs
  • {Due to Covid 19 visiting hours have been suspended}
