Minister Ms Bogolo Kenewendo Launches Sidilega Private Hospital

The multimillion investment facility, which was funded by government through Botswana Development Corporation (BDC), was launched by the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Ms Bogolo Kenewendo, in Gaborone on October 17 2019.

The Minister emphasised the key role of this collaboration which would enhance the country's economic thus allowing Botswana to compete in the international healthcare market. Most significantly bearing Botswana flag as the first locally owned Private Hospital.

She expressed that the hospital would bring medical tourism to the country as well as reducing the number of patient referrals to other countries, which she said was very costly and created a lot of government spend on healthcare services.

The chief executive officer, Dr Suresh Menon, said at full capacity, the facility would offer primary, secondary and tertiary health care services. He said the hospital would offer specialised surgery and the much needed services in the country, including hip replacement and other therapeutic care services with a strong focus on preventative care.
According to one of the directors , Dr Motsholathebe Phuthego the Directors being doctors themselves are localities and while understanding the huge gap in healthcare infrastructure in the community has identified and owns the property where the hospital is situated.
He concluded by saying that the project is addressing the healthcare demands of the community and is well equipped to manage patients from neighbouring countries as well. The location is ideal in terms of accessibility and approach with good parking facilities.

The Hospital is earmarked to be operational by the beginning of the year 2020.
